Pureganic Malta (مالٹے کا شہد)

Pureganic Malta is orange blossom honey, known in Urdu as مالٹے کا شہد (malte ka shehad, also written malte ka shahad). Bees make it when they forage in the citrus orchards of Sargodha, Punjab. Malta, kinnow and mosambi trees blossom in spring, and the nectar carries a fresh, unmistakably citrus scent into the honey.

It is light golden in the jar, with a bright aroma, a fruity sweetness and a gentle tang that makes it stand out from ordinary blossom honey.

We cold-extract Pureganic Malta and never heat it, so the delicate citrus aroma stays intact. Nothing is added.

How to enjoy it

Use it wherever you want a lift of citrus: stirred into green tea or warm lemon water, drizzled over pancakes, swirled through yoghurt with fruit, or whisked into a salad dressing.

• Honey-lemon dressing: one spoon of honey, two of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt
• Over fresh kinnow segments or a fruit chaat
• Brushed over a sponge cake while it is still warm
• In iced tea with mint in summer

Storage and crystallisation

Store the jar closed at room temperature, away from sunlight, and use a dry spoon. Orange blossom honey crystallises at a moderate pace, into a soft, creamy set. Stand the jar in warm water to return it to liquid. Avoid the microwave or boiling water, because strong heat dulls the citrus aroma.

Questions

Is it flavoured with orange? No. The citrus note comes only from the orange blossom nectar the bees collected. Nothing is added.

How is it different from our other honeys? It is brighter and fruitier than Goldy Palosa or Shaftal Soul, and much lighter than Bairy Nectar.

Can babies have it? No. Honey of any kind should not be given to babies under 12 months.
