Description

Relaxic Lavender is one of the rarest honeys in Pakistan. In Urdu it is لیونڈر کا شہد (lavender ka shehad, also spelt lavender ka shahad). It comes from the highlands of Ziarat and Loralai in Balochistan and from Jalalabad in Afghanistan, areas where scattered stands of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) flower among juniper and wild herbs. The flowering window is short and the lavender is sparse, so harvests are small.

The honey is pale gold, with a soft floral aroma that carries straight through from the flower, and a delicate, perfumed sweetness unlike anything else in our range.

We cold-extract Relaxic Lavender and never heat it, so its fragile aroma survives. Nothing is added.

How to enjoy it

Use it where the scent can come through: stirred into warm milk in the evening, in chamomile or green tea, over vanilla ice cream or kheer, or alongside soft cheese.

  • In a lemon and lavender honey cake or shortbread
  • Over fresh berries or sliced peaches with cream
  • In a glass of cold milk with a pinch of cardamom
  • In a light dressing for a summer salad

Add it at the end of cooking, or to drinks that are warm rather than boiling, so the floral aroma is not lost.

Storage and crystallisation

Keep the jar closed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Lavender honey sets into a fine, creamy texture over time. Warm the jar gently to make it runny again.

Questions

Is it flavoured with lavender oil? No. The aroma comes only from the lavender nectar.

Why does it cost more than clover or acacia honey? Lavender grows sparsely in these highlands and flowers briefly, so there is very little of it.

Can babies have it? No. Honey of any kind should not be given to babies under 12 months.

Available in 150 g, 250 g and 500 g jars.
