Types of Honey in Pakistan: A Guide to Every Variety
Honey changes completely depending on the flowers the bees visited. A spoon of dark Sidr honey and a spoon of pale clover honey can taste like two different foods. What Makes One Honey Different from Another?
- Floral source: the nectar decides the colour, aroma and flavour.

- Processing: raw, unheated honey keeps its character; heated honey loses much of it.
Single-origin (monofloral) honeys come mostly from one flower. Multifloral honeys blend many.

1. Sidr Honey (Beri ka Shehad)
From the Sidr (Ziziphus) tree, honoured in Islamic tradition. Dark, dense and rich, with a long, warm finish. Rare, because the tree flowers only once or twice a year.

2. Acacia Honey (Palosa / Phulai)
From the palosa tree (Acacia modesta). Pale golden, light and clean, and slow to crystallise because of its high fructose content.

3. Clover Honey (Shaftal)
From shaftal (Persian clover), a fodder crop. Very light in colour with a mild, clean sweetness. Crystallises fairly quickly.

4. Lavender Honey
From lavender growing in the highlands of Ziarat and Loralai, Balochistan. Pale gold with a soft floral aroma. One of Pakistan’s rarest honeys.

5. Ajwain Honey
From the small white flowers of the ajwain (carom) plant, in Swat. Light golden with a gentle herbal note.
